Hunt and Chase - the Tidy Up Game

There is something in every kid that makes the idea of tidying up after themselves so alien that a weary parent has to find other ways to get things done. In my house, if at the end of the day, we seem to be drowning in the sea of 'stuff' that accumulates in a two kid, two dog household we have a game of Hunt and Chase. With one kid standing up the corridor, I stand in the middle of the guddle and toss items to the second kid - the 'hunter'. With each item I shout a destination. "dirty socks - washing bin, coffee cup - kitchen!" The hunter takes or catches the items from me then runs to the 'chaser', whose job it is to put the items in their spot. It is a surprisingly quick way to get a room cleared - though imperfect, I admit. You may well find that the socks end up in the sink and the coffee cup in the washing bin, but hey, the living room looks fine and your kids helped out. |
